Survival rate for wounded U.S. troops, by war
American soldiers chances of surviving wounds have generally improved over time in large part due to medical advances. Historians note that U.S. "doughboys" benefitted from reaching the battlefields of Europe in the last year of World War I, while troops in World War II faced an array of deadlier weapons, particularly explosives. Many innovations in combat medical care combined in Iraq and Afghanistan to sharply improve surival rates.
